Langston Hughes

I have been reading a lot of Hughes' poems and prose lately. I really like his style and subjects, which mostly deal with Jazz, Harlem, and the African American experience. I just thought I would post one of my favs to share with you guys:)

Gods
The ivory gods,
And the ebony gods,
And the gods of diamond and jade,
Sit silently on their temple shelves
While the people
Are afraid.
Yet the ivory gods,
And the ebony gods,
And the gods of diamond-jade,
Are silly puppet gods
That the people themselves
Have made.
