Day In Atlanta

Last weekend I went to Atlanta with the family to go shopping and sight seeing. The weather was gorgeous: breezy and sunny! We went to Aunt Ruby's house first in McDonough and from there we all went to Lenox and met Levoyd (my cousin) who took us to Dantanna's restaurant.

Dantanna's had this great "she crab soup"! I could have eaten 2 bowls of that stuff!

After lunch, we went shopping at the Lenox. I went to Anthropologie (my favorite store) and found some awesome sales! I didn't spend too much money (suprisingly), but I found some really nice stuff. I wanted to get a dress for the banquet, but I didn't find anything formal enough. I guess I will just have to look around town. After we left Lenox, we headed over to Atlantic Station where we did some more shopping and got some dessert from the Cheescake Bistro...which I must say is just about on the same level as the Cheesecake factory!! Fun, fun day!

Washington Park

So I went to Washington Memorial Park today in Macon and it wasn't what I had expected...in a good way and bad. First, it was very small and I had expected it to be much bigger, especially considering the fact that I had just saw it on the news a few days ago when they had some kind of party there. Also, it had palm trees...which (smack in the middle of downtown Macon) is kinda weird! Today was cloudy and I had brought my water colours to paint a scene in the park (that assignment is due next week), but the temperature was nice and cool. The only thing that ruined my trip was a creepy guy that came from the neighborhood next to the park and he just kept staring at me...but he kept his distance. Soon afterwards I left because I got this creepy feeling that this guy was bad news. Thank the Lord that He kept me safe because I was all by myself...I won't be going back to Washington Park any time soon:(

Oscar

We are keeping our friend Angela's dog for a couple of weeks and he is absolutely adorable! He is a white maltese, 6-years-old, and a bit lazy at times:) The only down side is that he has bad breath, but he came with his own toothpaste and a brush...how weird! Oh yeah, he loves to go outside and chase our cats!

Guache

Most people don't know what guache paint is! Well, its a mix between watercolour and acrylic paint. At first, I hated doing anything with guache because it's almost like painting with toothepaste...yeah that's really what it feels like. But after a while you get used to it. To me, the colors are more vibrant than acrylic and flow better like watercolour can (but more opaque than watercolour). The inspiration for these is the great American painter Georgia O'Keefe!

The green one is abstract, the black and white is a Black Lilly, and the other one is my copy of O'Keefe's "Music- Pink & Blue".

Watercolours

Dr. Hutto gave us an assignment to paint a tree's shadow on a white building.

Narcissus

I'm taking two art classes right now at MSC: painting and multi media. The work is pretty easy but keeps you on your toes too:) These are just some paintings I did of models and a few landscapes/scenery.
I have an assignment thats due next week. Basically, I have to go to the Washington Park in Macon and find something there to do a live watercolour of...we'll see how that goes! I'll post pics of that project soon.

Langston Hughes

I have been reading a lot of Hughes' poems and prose lately. I really like his style and subjects, which mostly deal with Jazz, Harlem, and the African American experience. I just thought I would post one of my favs to share with you guys:)

Gods
The ivory gods,
And the ebony gods,
And the gods of diamond and jade,
Sit silently on their temple shelves
While the people
Are afraid.
Yet the ivory gods,
And the ebony gods,
And the gods of diamond-jade,
Are silly puppet gods
That the people themselves
Have made.

Charcoal Drawings

These are some of my drawings I did last year and as far back as 2006. I used compressed charcoal (kinda hard) and vine charcoal (soft and smudgy). Posting these reminds me that I haven't used charcoal in quite a while and I really need to get back into it! Its a great medium to use because its very versatile.

I used a glass bottle, a woman's shoe, and a felt hat...sorry about the glare!

Nice kitchen scene with a pitcher, bottle, and salt shaker.

I love the bones and notebook paper in this one...kinda an odd combo of stuff!

Those are two female figure busts that are leaning against a cardboard box...for some special effects I used a terra cota colered compressed charcoal that I had recently bought and never used before. It came out quite nicely!

One of my favorites! There are small seashells in the glass container!

Just some odd shapes and ends...mostly just a study on shadow and form.

I'm an official blogger now

Hi all! I finally decided to start a blog! yay! Hopefully I can keep this up...maybe I can spend more time here than on facebook:)
